BARRY HORNE has ruled himself out of the running for the manager’s job at Wrexham.
Former Wales international Horne, the club’s director of football, is one of the favourites with bookmakers for the vacant position but the 52-year-old says the timing is wrong to make a move into management.
“I am not surprised,” said Horne. “I am at the club and I am a pro-licence holder myself.
“I am very proud of my position at the club but the time is not right for me with everything else I have got going on.”
First team coach Carl Darlington has taken over as caretaker since Kevin Wilkin’s departure on March 30 and he has been assisted by Michael Oakes and Lee Jones along with other members of the backroom staff.
Although eager to appoint a new manager - around eight to ten names are on the shortlist of candidates - Horne says the club will not be rushed into making a decision on Wilkin’s successor.
“Everyone has mucked in,” said Horne. “We have all seen an improvement, even though we lost at Welling which was a setback.
“We are all very grateful for what they have done. They are more than capable and it means we can take our time appointing a new manager."
