A SHOWCASE of tradition will be on display this weekend as the long-running Grasmere Lakeland Sports and Show captivates audiences for yet another year.

Among the crowd-pulling attractions for new visitors and staunch supporters will be Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling, mountain bike races, dog shows and feisty tug of war competitions.

With restrictions imposed during foot-and-mouth now firmly in the past, unrestricted fell-racing, mountain-biking and hound-trailing will be making a welcome comeback for 2002.

The show, whose history spans three centuries, is an impressive display of agility, stamina and strength, and has been celebrated in a new book entitled Grasmere Sports, the First 150 years.

Copies will be on sale on the day.

The gates open at 9am on Sunday and there is free admission for children under five.

Entry to all events, which start at 10am, is on the day, except for the tug-of-war.
