The New Saints boss Scott Ruscoe admitted he was disappointed to have not signed off the season with a win after Ryan Brobbel's goal claimed a late at home to Cardiff Met on Friday night.

Kevin Kauber gave TNS a 2-0 lead inside 10 minutes when he struck twice in four minutes only for the university students to also record a double inside the same time limit with goals in the 35th and 39th minutes.

Met then took a shock lead two minutes after the break before Brobel rescued a point, leaving Ruscoe knowing Saints have to improve defensively next time out.

But he had special words of praise for Estonian striker Kauber and admitted TNS's fightback was a positive.

“A positive is the fightback at the end but it’s not the way we wanted to end the season," he said. "It was just a typical end of season game really.

“It was a similar sort of attitude to the first half against Connah’s Quay last week when we just turn up in fits and starts again.

“But it was an entertaining game for the neutrals and plenty of people came up to us at the end and told us how good it was. But that all came from mistakes as we didn’t really close them down and they had so many shots on our goal.

“That’s not like us and we conceded three goals. We also scored three but we know we can always do that so next season, I want to improve that defensive side.

“It’s nice that Kevin is starting to find his feet now. We’ve put him on the left and the right, and on Friday we put him through the middle and he responded well to it.

“We’ve brought him to the club to score goals and while he’s got a bit more to learn about that, he’s scored four or five goals so far and has kept up his side of the bargain.

“Hopefully in a month, he’ll have four weeks of training with us in time for the Champions League and he’ll come back firing and ready to go. He’ll be joined by the others and hopefully we’ll have three or four signings to come with him.”
