Delighted New Saints boss Scott Ruscoe says the focus on ensuring his players are ready for July's Champions League first qualification round after sealing his first league title as manager.

Ruscoe's side rolled Cefn Druids at Park Hall on Sunday after the title was won on Friday night following Bala Town's defeat to Connah' Quay.

The players will be given a month off before returning to work, with Ruscoe insisting the hard work has already started with the planning for the first game, with a change in the format giving TNS a better chance of a longer run in Europe.

"Our focus is on that now," he said. "Last year the players only got three weeks off but this year it’s four. We couldn’t give them five weeks, it’s too long.

"We’re planning already, with a week at home before we can hopefully get the players away for a week in some warm weather. That’s the carrot for them for working hard.

"The planning is well underway. Some players will get a rest now and we’ll utilise the squad. We’re going to have to as we could have finished today with nine men.

"It looks like everyone will get used over the coming weeks, especially as the squad isn’t too big.

"I want to thank my staff. Yes, without the players, the club doesn’t run but I want to thank my staff for everything. Steve Evans is my right-hand man; I’ve played alongside him as a player, I was alongside him in the youth set-up and now as management.

"It’s just us two – everything is run equally and while we have our discussions and disagreements, we want the best for the club and it’s why we’ve been successful.

"I’m feeling very good, pleased and happy. Everyone says about that first one and what follows on from there.

We’ve done it now and we’ve got two trophies on the board for us to start planning for the Champions League on July 11.

"The difference in the sensation of winning it as a coach and as a player is I’m less knackered. I always enjoyed winning it as a player, looking to play as many games as I can and win trophies."

Ruscoe admitted he wasn't bothered by the league already being sealed come kick-off and was more bouyed by the five-star showing from TNS.

He added: "It was a great performance – I said to the lads at half-time when it was 2-0 that they looked like they were enjoying themselves with a smile on their face and that carried on in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

"My only slight criticism to them was we were trying to force a few into central areas where we were never going to win it. But you can’t complain too much about that and I’m really pleased."
