OSWESTRY Rugby Club First XV's unbeaten start to their league campaign came to an end in their away game against Manchester Medics on Saturday. The Eagles entered the game on top of the league but were edged out in a tough game against one of the league’s form sides. The visitors started the better of the two teams and earned a succession of early penalties.  Hamish Fuller kicked to the corner and from the ensuing lineout a set-play by the dominant Oswestry pack allowed James Booth to go over in the corner. Medics showed their quality and sought to bounce back immediately. A penalty was converted to reduce arrears to 3-5, before the Medics gathered the ball at the restart and burst forward to cross the line for a converted try. Oswestry rallied and another driving lineout saw Deian Lloyd-Hughes break off and score in the corner, to level the score at 10-10, but the Eagles failed to add the extra from the ensuing conversion. The second half was tight with both teams matching each other blow for blow. A harsh yellow card to Andy Merrett allowed Medics an overlap out wide for their second try, which was also unconverted.  A late penalty from the Medics ensured a two score margin which proved to be enough to see out the final few minutes of the game.  *The Eagles face Marple at home on Saturday. Kick-off is at 3pm.
