WITH five games to go Bowdon faced Oswestry, who will also be their opponents in the Cheshire Bowl final in a month’s time.
Early Bowdon pressure was thwarted by the Oswestry defence, who along with the rest of the side showed more cohesion as a team, and they were unlucky not to open the scoring from a maul charging the Bowdon line.
But Bowdon put the first points on the scoreboard midway through the first half when they attacked down the left and passed through backs and forwards. The try was unconverted.
Three minutes later Eagles replied with a penalty after Bowdon failed to release the ball in a tackle in front of their own posts. Eagles’ Kev Evans converted.
Bowdon then came at the Eagles with a ruck, breaking through the Eagles’ defence and scoring a converted try. Again Oswestry replied and crossed out wide for a try which was not converted.
The second half was hard fought and the ref called both captains for a chat on several occasions but luckily for both teams all 30 players stayed on the park.
Bowdon threw everything at the Eagles defence which they held up resolutely but Bowdon got in a try and converted again.
Oswestry tried hard to punch holes through the Bowden defence and earned a penalty try which Evans converted.
l The firsts face Bowdon in the final of the Cheshire Bowl next month and on Saturday they face Ormskirk at home with a 3pm kick-off.
