Olympians Round-Up

A busy few days for the Oswestry Olympians seniors saw races come thick and fast in the summer schedule.

With over 50 different teams taking part in the Attingham Relays, each member of a team made up of three runners had to complete a two-mile off-road leg. The Olympians were the most successful team on the night with fastest laps were Oli Blake followed by Pete Butler.

Fastest junior was Rhiannon Tansley.

The club had three teams in the top eight men coming 1st, 5th and 8th; two in the top nine women with 4th and 9th; two in the top seven mixed with 3rd and 7th; and then 1st and 2nd in the 'Over the Hill' category.

Then on May 13 Oli Blake had a great run in the Market Drayton 10k coming third out of more than 2,000 runners in 33 minutes and 2 seconds.

And the club was out in force again on May 18 in the Christleton 5k in which Oli came seventh in 15 minutes and 22 seconds, with David Devine of Liverpool Harrier and AC taking the win n 14 minutes and 43 seconds.

And not to be outdone the young members of Oswestry Olympians came home with a haul of medals following the Years 5 and 6 Shropshire Cross Country Championships.

The individual and team medals came following the weather-delayed competition.

Jack Tinney was crowned Year 6 Boys’ Champion and gold medallist, while Evie Foster secured silver as second in the Year 5 Girls’ event.

The successes continued with both the Year 6 Girls made up of Seren Roberts, Jessica Steel and Lexie Youens and Year 6 Boys’, Jack Tinney, Charlie White Jones, Harry Heard and Daniel Morris winning bronze medals in the team event.
