Fancy trying your hand at a bit of crown green bowling at the delightful 200-years-old walled garden setting of Oswestry’s Wynnstay Hotel?

Wynnstay Bowling Club is offering you the chance to try grass bowls at this centuries old sport - that not only provides endless fun but keeps you fit while you enjoy yourself.

An open day on Wednesday May 2, from 10am through to 4pm, sends out an open invitation to anyone who thinks they might be interested in trying this gentle sport.

There will be no obligation for you to join and no charge to try it, but be warned it is a fun game with ready-made friends and becomes addictive once you give it a whirl.

Bowling Club members will be on hand on to show you how it all works and bowls plus buckets of advice will be provided free, for you to try it out yourself.

The new grass season opened on April 5 and meets every week at 2pm on Monday and Thursday afternoons, for mixed sessions, and on Tuesday evening for men only and Wednesday evening for women only.

This year there are two women at the helm, Pam Bridge is the current club president and Kath Lewis the club captain.

The club's £33 membership fee covers all of the six month season, working out at little more than £1 a session, while winter indoor bowling is organised when the weather deteriorates in October.

The green is looking its best but something is missing - and that is you. You can just turn up but if you want to discuss it you can call Club secretary Bill Bowen on 01691 654571 - or keep in touch on Facebook by typing in Wynnstay Bowling Club, then ‘follow’.
