Just at the start of the Oswestry and District League Crown Green Bowling Season, Llanymynech Bowling Club, thanks to the generosity of the Mary Hignett Bequest Fund, supervised by the Oswestry Rotary Club, been able to replace and upgrade their previous dilapidated toilet facilities.

Without the likes of these funds, the club members do not have the financial capabilities, as with most clubs, to finance such a venture and bequests like this can of course be a lifeline to any club, to promote and ensure its future.

The fund, is of course in place for the promotion of Arts and Sports in the Oswestry area, thanks to the significant donation of Mary Hignett.

Llanymynech Bowling club, has now, 50 plus members, ranging in age from 16 through to late 80’s and six teams play bowls from the green, throughout Shropshire and into mid and north Wales, as a small club donations like this are a lifeline, as whilst bowls may still well be seen as a ‘Cloth Cap’ game, the game is suitable for all generations, encouraging and allowing sociability for those otherwise alone. It also provides good regular exercise, even though at this stage of the year the games are being played in inclement weather.
