In Division One of the Chester and District Chess League, Malpas and Oswestry 1sts lost to Chester 1sts away on Tuesday, March 27.

Chester had already won the title.

On board one, Charles Lowick Higgie (176) faced John Carleton (220) who had already secured the Player of the Season award. After losing his first game in September, John had wheeled out eight wins on the trot, and he made it nine with a quick win with black. Draws were then agreed on the bottom boards, with Graham Ives drawing with David I Hulme with white on five and Peter Lovatt with black on four against David Stuttard. David Bennion lost with white again David Robertson on three and then finally Richard Bryant lost to Danny Savidge on two.
