A trio from Oswestry Olympians were on top form at the National Schools’ Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

Jack Tinney, Charlie White Jones and Massimo Wyatt each made the top three of their respective races as they represented Shropshire at the competition held at Prestwold Hall in Loughborough to compete against the best runners from across the nation.

They found the conditions sticky underfoot and, for the first time, experienced the jostling associated with a packed start with so many competitors.

In the Year 6 race Jack Tinney, of Carreghofa School in Llanymynech was the second Shropshire runner home in a superb 43rd place out of 257 runners. Third finisher for the county in 86th place was Charlie White Jones, of Woodside School.

Massimo Wyatt, of The Marches School, was the victim of a particularly congested Year 7 start but battled on through the 3.5km course to be the third Shropshire runner home, completing an excellent day for the Oswestry contingent.
