Four members of Oswestry Olympians were selected to represent Shropshire in the West Midland Regional Sportshall Championships held at Solihull.

Lucy McGlinchey was selected as a guest the U-15 girls’ shot after winning every winter Sportshall shot put when competing for Oswestry Olympians in this year’s league fixtures.

Luke Steel made it a family double with his selection for the U-13 boy’s team just a few weeks after his sister Jess celebrated selection for the U-11 girls’ team. Luke finished a creditable sixth in the vertical jump.

Oswestry and Shropshire team mates Massimo Wyatt and Tom Hotchkiss gained county selection for the third year running.

Tom confirmed the progress he has made this year with a fifth place in the final of the four laps after qualifying in the time trials against strong opposition from counties including Birmingham, Warwickshire and Hereford and Worcester.

He completed a successful day by adding almost 30cm to his personal best in the standing triple jump with a leap of 6.30 metres which was equal fourth but fifth after count back.

Competing in the four laps Massimo, who will still be able to compete in this age group next year, also shone finishing just three tenths of a second away from reaching the final.
