Sunderland is an absolute mess. Two relegations in two seasons and on Sunday, they sacked Chris Coleman after it was announced the club was going to be sold.

At his last press conference, he said he didn’t even know where one of his players was but before he joined the club, he was on the crest of a wave with Wales. It’s mind-boggling how everything has happened considering some of the wages they’ve paid in the past but wouldn’t pay them to keep them in the league.

Their problems have come from a snowball effect and how low will it go? Where does it end? It’s a sorry state of affairs; they’ve got this big stadium but you’ve got to wonder how they’re going to fill it. The players are on big salaries are just going to leave; they don’t care about Sunderland. Their agents will have something lined up and it’s quite horrible for a big club to be going through these sad times.

However, over the weekend, new owners have been announced and Elias Short is gone. The club could possibly benefit from having a new local heart but there is still a lot of damage there. Will they get the fans back?

It’s happened to Leeds but will Sunderland be that fortunate? I think going back to basics is where they need to start from but League One won’t be that easy as there’s lots of games to be played again.

Whether they come back up is all down to the summer they have.
