Taking a step away from football but I was shocked and interested to view the events unfolding in cricket last week, with the cheating of three Australian players.

Captain Steve Smith, vice-captain David Warner and batsman Cameron Bancroft were all caught and found guilty of ball-tampering. Only they know if their tears are genuine, but we know from other sports, such as doping in cycling or Tiger Woods, when someone gets caught, they're always sorry.

They've got things going on in their personal lives but we all have. Sometimes it gets covered up by crocodile tears to get home fans to take pity and support them.

But at the end of the day, it was blatant cheating and rightly so, there's a lot of angry people about. Only they know if they're genuinely sorry but I thought at first they didn't get a big ban as it was just one test from the world cricket governing body.

But their own cricket governing body in Australia has given them a huge ban – Smith and Warner got 12 months and Bancroft nine while Warner may never play Test cricket again – and I'm sure they'll have plenty of time to consider their actions and think whether it was worth carrying out.
