I WAS interested to see Gareth Southgate's remarks about England getting its own house in order regarding racism and Russia.

We've seen Rhian Brewster's complaints in the UEFA Youth League and Southgate said he was shown racist comments on England's under-17 side.

In this day and age, it's still rife and some countries have no hiding place, such as Spain and Russia, just two examples.

I agree with Southgate to a certain extent. It has improved but it's 2018 and we're living with different cultures and we should try to get along. There's a small percentage of people acting badly and it's not nice to live with.

I understand what he's saying. But, I wouldn't want to go to Russia, not with young children, if I had tickets. That's not just because of the racism but also the hooliganism.

He'll have been advised on what to say but coming from the England manager will make people listen. Hopefully it will filter down but you can only do so much and educate so many people.

There is still a minority of people who think that way and will be stuck in the dark ages, but change has to come from within the fans.
