After he masterminded Barcelona's win over Chelsea, I saw an incredible stat about Leo Messi, that he has scored one more goal since 2010 than the whole of Stoke City.

I think he's the best. He's just fantastic to watch and every young player should aspire to go out into the back garden and play like him.

Everything about him is great – you never see him having a go at his teammates, although I agree he plays for one of the best teams in the world. He loves playing and never really dips below a level, whether that's scoring or making goals.

He gets 35-40 goals a season and any kid new to football at five, six or seven, should want to aspire to be like him. He's always outstanding.

I saw all the plaudits he receives. On Twitter, I was reading the outpouring of love for him – people can't say enough about just how good he is at football.

But don't forget, Messi can look after himself. He's been kicked from pillar to post in Spanish football but there's also something in genius players to make them look after themselves.

They don't want to be out for six weeks and miss playing football. They will want to be on the pitch so they can win the game.

He's Argentinean and again, it's in his system to know how to be clever to avoid injury. He's willing to put a shift in which is part of the team ethic he has. Not only does he want to take free-kicks and score goals, but he wants to win for his team.

You look at someone like Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal, throwing his toys out of the pram. Messi doesn't do that – he goes and gets the ball back and works hard for his team.

I can't see him leaving Barcelona. Maybe Argentina though?

Messi has won three Copa Americas, meaning he has won two more continental trophies than Cristiano Ronaldo, who he is always compared with.

A footballer's career is short but for him to say he has a world cup on his CV is huge, like Diego Maradona, who while they are from different eras, have very similar styles. Messi is probably more of a role model.

Maradona won a World Cup and I'm sure Messi wants to win before the end of his career.
