Young rugby stars collect awards
AT THE end of season awards presentation, a packed rugby club acknowledged the recipients who were selected for their contribution to the team effort rather than outstanding individual talent.
The Youth Development Officer, Robin Pinder, had decided that whilst it did not preclude outstanding talent, the first award would go to the player in each age group who was the most influential.
Accordingly this could also include players who had other outstanding qualities such as leadership, tenacity, indefatigability and character.
The second award would be to the player in each age group who was the most dependable on or off the pitch in such attributes as attendance, effort or helpfulness.
The final award, to each age group, was given to the player who had personally improved the most during the season or had worked hard to improve.
It was felt by Robin that if each team had every player in a cross section of the above group qualities, then it would be a team to be reckoned with.
