FORMER Oswestry Boys Club goalkeeper, Boaz Myhill, has nailed his international colours to the mast and opted to become a 'Taff.'
The former Marches schoolboy joins the full Welsh soccer squad who fly out to Luxembourg for a friendly game on Wednesday.

The American-born goalkeeper Myhill, who qualifies for Wales because his mother was born in Llangollen, has been called up by Welsh team boss John Toshack as first team 'keeper Wayne Hennessey plays for the under 21s in their crucial 2009 European Championship qualifier.

Toshack said that they had been trying to persuade the 25-year-old Hull City shot-stopper to decide his international future for some time.

"He can play for three countries, but maybe his Welsh mum has had a word. He is very positive about joining up with us," he said.

Myhill is one of the reasons for Hull City's meteoric climb into the Championship play off positions this year following successive promotions.

Toshack added: "He is playing regularly and in a side going well in their bid to make the play-offs. Because of all the injuries we have and the situation with the Under 21s we have decided the Luxembourg game is an opportunity for us to have a look at a number of new players.

Talented

"We always need competition for places and it will be interesting for some of them to be involved. Then we can take things from there."

Myhill, pictured, is also a talented cricketer who donned the whites for Oswestry on a number of occasions, had played for Oswestry Boys Club teams and represented Shropshire before coming to the attention of Aston Villa when he was just 12.

He has represented England at most levels up to and including Under 20 and been on standby for the Under 21 side.

At club level he has been on loan to Stoke City, Bristol City, Bradford
City, Macclesfield Town and Stockport County, joining Hull City in 2003 where he has been a regular member of the first team ever since.

His parents live in Weston Rhyn where his mum, Chris, was excited by the news of his international call-up.
