A MAGNIFICENT century by South African ace Warrick Fynn was not enough to prevent a below-strength Oswestry side from making a losing start to life in the Birmingham League on Saturday.
Fynn blasted 128 at Coleshill in probably his best innings for the club, as Oswestry reached 220 all out in the last of their allotted 55 overs.

He received bits and bobs of support throughout the innings, with Mark Robinson the second highest sco
rer on 16 off just 11 balls.

Coleshill's reply got off to a shaky start, as a magnificent catch by Oliver Clarke and an lbw verdict in Robinson's favour saw them reduced to 9-2. But when Sri Lankan pro Ranaweera was dropped without further addition to the score, it proved the turning point in the match.

Coleshill assumed command, and eventually took their total to 222-6 with just six balls to spare. Robinson was the most successful bowler with 3-88.

Oswestry are going to need more commitment from some of their senior players if they are going to compete at this level - a full-strength side would surely have picked up at least a winning draw from a game which saw Fynn suffer his first league defeat as an Oswestry player.

Oswestry Seconds had the better of a winning draw against their Coleshill counterparts, taking 11 points to their opponents' six from a winning draw.

Alex Huxley hit 53, Steve Humphreys 31 and Craig Roberts 22 as Oswestry reached 156-8 in their 50 overs.
In reply, Coleshill were restricted to 120-6, with Steve O'Reilly taking 2-40.
