Welsh National League Premier Division
Chirk AAA 3, Hawarden Rangers 3
CHIRK threw away a two-goal second-half lead to let Hawarden go away with a deserved draw from Holyhead Road and end Chirk's 100 per cent start to their league campaign.
Chirk had taken the lead after just 10 minutes when leading scorer Joe Roberts fired home from close range after good approach play from Jason Williams. However Hawarden were soon back in the game when Rhys Owen was adjudged to have handled in the area and Leon Bowen made no mistake from the spot to draw his teams level.
Chirk went ahead again just before the break when Dan Nash hit home after a goalmouth melee from a corner. And they seemed to have wrapped things up on the hour mark when Joe Roberts hit his second of the game and his ninth goal of the season when he fired home from an acute angle to give Selvester in the Hawarden goal little chance.
Hawarden pulled a goal back with 15 minutes remaining when a long punt from Selvester evaded the Chirk backline and Bowen chipped over Williams to make it 3-2.
Hawarden were now rampant and it came as no surprise when, from a direct free kick just outside the box, Bowen completed his hat-trick in the dying minutes. It was no more than Hawarden deserved and their second half performance fully justified their point.
Chirk have a tricky looking fixture at Brickfield this week.
Chirk Reserves had a great win at Ruthin Town. They came away with a 7-2 win with Mike Jak Williams getting two goals, one a spectacular diving header, Scott Rogers (2), Sean Morris (2) and Phil Pearce getting Chirk's goals. On Saturday they entertain Castell Alun Colts.
