A YOUNG Oswestry rugby star has been tipped for future success by England legend Lawrence Dallaglio OBE, following a training session under the watchful eye of the former England captain.

Twelve-year-old Elliot Blount Powell joined 100 other rugby players aged between six and 18 at Twickenham stadium for a national training day, supported by by Italian pesto producers Sacla, and having put the youngsters through their paces, the England great said he was greatly impressed by what he saw.

"The quality of rugby on display has been fantastic and a testament to all the young rugby players who have taken part. Who knows, we may have unearthed some real stars for the future. I hope that I have been able to pass on some of the skills required to reach the very top of the game as well as the core values of rugby - including respect, enjoyment, discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork.

"I was lucky enough to walk out at Twickenham a few times, and I'm sure all of the youngsters here today have enjoyed their experience - hopefully it might inspire them to aim for even better things in the future."

Elliot, who plays for Oswestry RFC, said: "I really enjoyed the day at Twickenham, the best bits were running out of the tunnel and being in the England changing rooms as well as the chance to play on the pitch. It was
absolutely brilliant to meet Lawrence Dallaglio, he is such a good player.
