OSWESTRY Cricket Club has announced that it plans to appeal against the severity of the ban handed down to third team player Allan Morris.
The former captain was banned for the remainder of this year and all of next season following a fracas with a Whitchurch player on May 22 which led to the game being abandoned.
Ian Simcock, the other player involved, was banned for 11 games for verbal abuse and provocative behaviour.
A statement from Shropshire Cricket League said that it endorsed the findings of the disciplinary hearing held at Ellesmere on May 28.
Disciplinary chairman Jamie Dowley said: "The committee were determined to send out a strong message to all players and clubs in the league that verbal abuse and violent conduct are completely unacceptable in cricket and our league in particular.
"These were particularly unsavoury incidents, and it is only right that the perpetrators serve lengthy bans from the game. The majority of the players in this match, several of whom were under 18, had their day's cricket ruined by the actions of experienced cricketers who should have known and acted better."
Whitchurch Cricket Club treasurer Liam O'Neill said that Ian Simcock accepted he had done wrong and would accept the punishment.
Since the incident, Allan Morris has resigned as third team captain and been banned by the club for two weeks.
Mike Robinson, club captain, at Oswestry said that the committee had met at the Morda Road ground on Thursday night and had decided to appeal against the severity of the punishment handed down to the Oswestry player.
