FORMER Saints boss Andy Cale was waved on his way to ‘fry bigger fish’ this week with a reference from the Park Hall club in his back pocket.
After securing the title for The Saints with an efficient win over Aberystwyth, Cale handed over the reins to ‘manager in training’ Mike Davies and is then reported to have applied for the vacancy at Telford.
However, Saints chairman, Mike Harris, said it had always been the intention that Andy Cale would move on once Mike Davies had gained valuable experience and qualifications.
“Andy Cale has been a regular supporter of the club on and off for 12 years but has a lot of commitments. What Andy was able to give Mike was guidance and experience. Mike has gained a recognised qualification and is now at the stage when he can take the reins,” Harris explained.
Harris, who was attending Mike Davies’ wedding in Falmouth last Friday, said that he would sit down and talk about strengthening the squad when the new boss returned from honeymoon.
“We will probably be looking to bring in possibly two players but we will be ensuring that we get the right players,” he added.
After Davies used some of his squad players to retain the Loosemore’s Cup at Airbus’ ground last Tuesday, Harris expressed his satisfaction with the way the season had gone.
“We have won a double, but with a little bit more fortune we would have had a treble including the Welsh Cup,” he said.
But he praised the efforts of Llanelli, who had taken the Welsh Premier season into the final day.
“We have performed exceptionally well but we have been pushed all the way. That is good for the Welsh Premier League and made for an exciting season,” he said.
