ELLESMERE Rangers stunned the North Shropshire soccer community with a shock 3-1 victory in the Shropshire Challenge Cup final at Shrewsbury’s Pro Star Stadium on Tuesday night.
They shook their high flying opponents from three leagues above them by establishing a 2-0 first half lead thanks to goals from Gaz Meredith and Andy Reeve who netted direct from a corner with the keeper only able to help the bell into the roof of the net.
Although Market Drayton pulled one back through Martyn Davies early in the second half the expected revival from the Unibond South side failed to materialise and Ellesmere were under little pressure once Nathan Leonard had made the game safe with a well worked goal 12 minutes from time.
