'May the force be with you', that will be the hope of Frankton Cricket Club when it hosts its Cricket Force weekend to complete the work on the club’s £120,000 new pavilion.
Work is going ahead this Friday, Saturday and Sunday on knocking down the old pavilion, painting the new one and doing some of the ground work on the slightly expanded ground.
Club chairman Elwyn Jones is confident that enough players, ex-players and supporters will attend to keep the club on track for a prompt start to the season on May 1.
The Cricketforce weekend was designated by the England Cricket Board for a time of helping your local cricket club. Unfortunately unlike its television namesake, there will be no Charlie Dimmock to spur on the workers but there will be tea provided for the thirsty workers on the three days.
Money has been raised for the new pavilion through a variety of grants and around eight years of sportsman’s dinners attended by the likes England international Geoff Miller, Graham Gooch, Chris Cowdrey, Alan Lamb and David Graveney.
