THE Park Hall side played a very strong Lymm III, currently bottom of the league.
It was a tough game and despite the home side applying lots of pressure they could not break down the well organised opposition.
Lymm scored two easy tries with their backs in full flow before Oswestry gained a foothold.
The Oswestry pack played well with Tom Sproulle throwing in excellently and rolling mauls taking the ball upfield on many occasions but Lymm tackled well, Steve Charmley eventually touched down with a powerful one foot drive after a five metre scrum.
The last 10 minutes of the first half saw Oswestry camped on the Lymm line but they huffed and puffed but could not blow Lymm over.
The second half started in disaster with Oswestry running the ball out of their own 22 but then juggling the ball into Lymm’s hands and they raced away to score.
Oswestry’s scrum half, Scott Faulkes, could not find Brian Lamb with his pass and Rich Lumby deputised but he took some time to warm up and make a difference.
Oswestry had good possession but again and again made silly errors like knocking-on or not finding touch with kicks led to them getting frustrated and Lamb was subbed after losing his temper once to often.
Oswestry kept pressing and centre Terry Hughes blasted through and dragged two tacklers over the line to score.
The Eagles’ tail feathers were up with only five points in the game but Lymm again scored an easy try with poor tackling letting them win the game, captain Dave Richardson was disappointed especially as he wasn’t sure if he had played Lymm II or Lymm III.
This week, Oswestry II are away to Caldy III.
There is a former players’ lunch at the club this week when Oswestry Firsts play Wigan. Anyone wishing to book their place should ring Brett Hollywell at his shop.
