NEWTOWN travel to Connahs Quay Nomads tonight (Friday) aiming to get back on track following last week’s dismal showing at Carmarthen Town.

A 3-0 defeat at Richmond Park represented the Robins second away defeat on the road so far this season with Newtown’s away record threatening to undermine their unblemished home record

Manager Chris Hughes insisted he would not be making any sweeping changes ahead of the trip to Deeside.

Hughes said: “It is frustrating and we are disappointed but there will be no over reaction.

“In the last three games we defended our box really well but on Saturday we were not good enough at the back and punished.”

Hughes maintained the Robins could build on their positive start against a Nomads side which knocked Scottish Championship side Falkirk out of the IRN-BRU Cup last week only to flounder in defeat to Caernarfon Town on Tuesday.

“We have seven points from five games and we are still in a decent position,” said Hughes. “It is important to react now and put things right at Connahs Quay.

“We are frustrated, the lads deserved the plaudits after last week and we wanted to follow that up but this happens sometimes.”

Hughes had no complaints over the result and confessed Carmarthen had been organised and clinical.

“In this league the first goal is huge,” said Hughes. “We hit the post and had good chances at 0-0 but they hit us on the counter and that allowed them to sit in.

“From 18 yard box to 18 yard box we did really well but the quality in both boxes was why we lost the game. They attacked the ball better.

“It wasn’t our day in front of goal, we hit the post and snatched at efforts, and then not stopped the crosses into our box and we were punished.”

Craig Williams returns to contention following his three match ban.
