Oswestry Tennis Club’s men’s first team continued their season this week travelling to Albrighton to play their first team.

In the first round rubbers the first pair of Captain Martin Shortt and Oliver Tombs took the first set against the opposing first pair on a tie break and then completed the rubber 6-3 in the second. The second pair of Gary Edwards and Matt Grice were beaten in straight sets 4-6, 6-7 by the Albrighton second pair

In the reverse rubbers Shortt and Tombs had an easier time winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 but Edwards and Grice had a real humdinger of a contest that consisted of three tie break sets, dropping the first 6-7, taking the second 7-6 but then narrowly lost out in the deciding third set tie break 0-1.

This resulted in an overall draw with each team claiming two points.

With only two fixtures left to play because of the late withdrawal of Longden tennis club the team are currently sitting at the top of the league two points ahead of their nearest rivals
