Oswestry Tennis Club’s Ladies third team took to the courts for the first time this season with a home fixture against Hollies third team.

Although the forecast was for predicted thunderstorms the team captains decided to not postpone and it was the right decision as they only had to stop play for about twenty minutes for a heavy rain shower.

In the first round rubbers captain Linda Davies partnered Carolyn Yates for the first time and had a very close encounter with games evenly won by both teams until the Oswestry pair sneaked ahead in the final games of each set winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

The second pair of Jo Dalietos and partner Liz Newsholme were equally as impressive also winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

In the reverse rubbers Davies and Yates won the first set 6-3 and then ran away with the second 6-0

Dalietos and Newsholme took the first set 6-3 but let the opposition back into the rubber by dropping the second set 4-6 taking it to a deciding third set tie break. This was a very tense affair and Hollies took an early lead, but the Oswestry pair kept their concentration and pulled ahead to win 1-0 (10-5) so a maximum four points was a great result.
