Chirk

A much-improved Chirk were still given a harsh lesson in the North Wales Cricket League 1st XI League Premier Division against St Asaph on Saturday.

The visitors put Chirk into bat and skipper Andrew Swarbrick would be happier with this week's showing as they posted a score of 186 all out in the 50th over.

Once again, the skipper led by example as he scored a fine 57 from 65 balls, including nine fours batting at number seven.

Earlier, Nicholas Flack and Gareth Partridge both set the tone with 24 and 30 respectively while numbers eight, nine and 10 alls cored 13 to give Chirk a boost in the tail.

Adam Shillcock was retired hurt on 14 not out.

Flack then gave Chirk a huge boost as he took the wicket of visiting opener Duncan Midgley, trapping him lbw with the score at 0-1

However, any hope of a Chirk win soon disappeared as St Asaph's other opener Nathaniel Scott ripped the home attack to shreds in an 187-run stand with skipper William Ryan.

Scott's finished 108 not out, smashing 14 fours and one six from just 130 balls while Ryan scored his 63 a t a more sedate rate, taking 113 balls and just three fours as he allowed Scott to do the damage at the other end.

Flack finished 1-39 from 11 while the other five bowlers all remained wicketless.

Swarbrick will be boosted by his side's efforts with the bat as they head to llandudno on Saturday. Meanwhile, the second XI played Ruthin's seconds at home yesterday.
