OSWESTRY town mayor Councillor Vince Hunt has served an ace with the opening of a new tennis facility in Cae Glas Park on Saturday.

Cllr Vince Hunt, accompanied by the Mayoress, his daughter Amber, cut the ribbon to reopen the Oswestry Team Tennis court facility, which has recently been refurbished at a cost of around £13,000.

This was completed through a partnership scheme between Oswestry Team Tennis, Oswestry Town Council and Barclays Spaces for Sport.

Around 100 parents and children were on hand to support the proceedings and following the ceremony, everyone adjourned to the park keeper’s clubhouse to enjoy a buffet lunch provided by OTT parents.

The mayor arrived at the facility early on so that he could see the coaching sessions undertaken by Mike Markham and his coaching staff in motion.

Not content with just watching, Vince took his jacket off and got stuck in playing tennis with the mini red children, which was much appreciated by all.

The facility with its three mini red courts and one mini orange court is now the largest mini tennis complex in Shropshire.

With around 200 members aged from four to 18, this is a junior priority club which provides opportunities to learn how to play and enjoy the game.
