West Midlands Regional League  Division One
St Martins 2,
Bridgnorth Town Reserves 2
A DRAMATIC last- gasp equaliser from St Martins debutant Rhys Adams saw the home side rescue a point against Bridgnorth Reserves as they took another step towards securing their safety under the guidance of player-manager Tim Allen.
Adams pounced to dispatch a header in the dying seconds having taken the lead early in the second-half through Karl Bailey before the visitors turned the game on its head.
A Steve Pugh own goal and a Bridgnorth penalty changed the game as St Martins looked to self destruct after all their good work, but they regained their composure to delight the home support with Adams making a name for himself on his very first appearance for the club.
Saints started the brighter of the two sides but were unable to make the early dominance count with only a couple of shots from long range which failed to test the Bridgnorth goalkeeper.
Bridgnorth did settle into the game after the first quarter, playing a neat passing game, but they failed to make any real chances of note in the first-half as the St Martins defence remained in control.
Saints made two changes at the break with Allen adding to his firepower up front in a move that paid immediate dividends when Bailey opened the scoring five minutes into the second-half.
The introduction of Nath Williams almost had a similar effect when he broke from midfield before sliding his shot just wide of the upright.
But Saints own desire to make the game safe led to Bridgnorth catching them out on the counter attack, breaking down the right and sending a hopeful ball into the box which was sliced into his own net by Pugh soon after the hour.
Then, with ten minutes to go, Saints ever dependable Jorge Gomes made an uncharacteristic rash challenge in the penalty area with Bridgnorth slotting home the resulting spot kick to give them the lead.
But Adams arrived to score with a towering header in time to snatch a valuable point ahead of this Saturday’s visit of second placed Wem.
