LIKE most sporting fixtures this weekend, The New Saints home clash with Aberystwyth Town was postponed on Saturday due to the snow.
The game was called off on Saturday morning following heavy snowfall in the area on Friday night.
Both the Saints and the seasiders agreed that because of severe weather conditions and for safety reasons the game should not go ahead.
The snow affected most games in the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League with games at Carmarthen, Bangor and Bala all falling foul of the weather. But two games did beat the cold snap as Afan Lido went down 1-0 at home to Llanelli and Prestatyn Town were thumped 6-1 at home to Airbus UK.
All the postponed fixtures from last weekend, due to be the last in phase one of the league, before the league splits, will now be played on Saturday, February 2.
This weekend, The New Saints welcome Cymru Alliance table toppers Rhyl to The Venue in the last 16 of the Welsh Cup.
Rhyl, who sit top of the Alliance with a 14-point lead, come into Saturday’s clash having not lost in 25 domestic games this season, and will be looking to topple the Saints, following their Word Cup Final defeat last Saturday against Carmarthen Town. The 3pm kick off will be played in front of the S4C cameras at The Venue on Saturday.
Elsewhere, in the last 16 of the competition, other Welsh Premier teams involved are Newtown, who entertain Airbus, and Connah’s Quay who welcome Bangor City.
