A YOUNG St Martins boxer is due to take part in the novice boxing championships in Swansea this weekend, looking to maintain his unbeaten record in the ring.

Fourteen-year-old Zac Williams, pictured left, is part of the Maelor Boxing Club in Cefn Mawr, where he has been training since taking up the sport nine months ago.

Now, after winning his first two contests, he has been entered into the novice championships taking place in Swansea.

Head coach at the Maelor Boxing Club, Butch Jones, said Zac has made great progress in nine months, which has showed with his two wins. “Zac is a dedicated lad, who came to me nine months ago with a great attitude. He never misses training and is a very good listener in the ring.”

The novice championship at Penlan in Swansea is open to boxers in Wales, with Zac fighting in the category of boxers who have had up to five fights. The competition has been growing since it began four years ago with over 100 competitors this year.

Zac will be fighting along with senior boxer, Joe Smith, pictured right, from Rhos, Wrexham who has been successful in his one bout so far.
The two boxers will be competing on Saturday, and will be looking for a win to move into the next category.
