OSWESTRY'S groundsman Adrian Huxley won high praise from Shropshire Cricket Association recently for the quality of the wicket he produced for the county's three-day Minor Counties fixture.
The wicket was prepared with just seven days notice by Adrian but still produced a fine game between Shropshire and Wiltshire when the result was in the balance until the final stages.
Chasing 387 to win set by Wiltshire, Shropshire were 327 for seven when an honourable draw was declared.
Oswestry club captain Mike Robinson said the fact that 1,500 runs were scored in the three days was testament to Adrian's skill as a groundsman.
"Everyone was delighted. Adrian produced a fantastic wicket in such a short space of time," he said.
The club was delighted too at attracting so many spectators, particularly on the opening Sunday with so many rival cricketing attractions around.
"It was a highly successful three days and one we would love to repeat," he added.
The Minor Counties fixture was moved to Oswestry when it emerged that Shrewsbury's ground was double booked with the home side taking part in a national knock-out competition.
