SELATTYN School will be holding a public meeting to discuss the future of the school, remaining unconvinced at the council's apparent u-turn.

The school would like to thank everyone who supported the campaign but warn that although the list has gone, the issues remain and the fight continues.

All community members and interested parties are invited to the school hall on Thursday, at 7pm. MP Owen Paterson will also attend but will arrive late as he is flying in from Belfast.

A statement from Headteacher Claire Heskins read: "We have won the first round, now the battle continues to safeguard the future of our rural village, church school. Whilst I am delighted and heartened by the fantastic support we have so far received, I remain unconvinced that our future is secure.

"Euphoria at the apparent u-turn has passed me by, I feel disorientated and uneasy by such a sharp turn around. The same issues still remain and to date I have heard no public confirmation that the closure
proposal for Shropshire's small, rural schools is dead.

"I remain dedicated to providing the unique, special, successful, all-
round education, where every child (and every member of staff and stakeholder) truly does matter at Selattyn. It is what makes us such a popular choice for parents and such a happy, thriving school for pupils.

"I look forward to a time when my school's admission numbers are not capped, when I can welcome into this flourishing learning environment as many pupils as capacity allows and when Selattyn School can breathe easy in the knowledge that our future is secure," she added.

Mr Paterson is urging all schools who think they may qualify for extra funding to write to him and he will take up their case with the government in a bid to ensure their safety.
