A pledge has been made by Oswestry Town Council to ensure its staff are paid the living wage.
Councillor Olly Rose put forward the motion - which will only impact two members of staff - last week.
She also asked for the council to become an accredited living wage employer.
However, some members voiced concerns over the latter part of her proposal saying it would be wrong for the council to dictate the wages set out by its contractors.
Councillor Chris Schofield said: "We have no right to get other companies to pay this."
The living wage is currently £8.75 an hour and the increase for the two members of council staff would cost around £600 a year.
Cllr Rose added: "The idea is about reducing inequality."
Members agreed to pay all staff members the living wage and voted to investigate accreditation.
