Oswestry’s position as innovative town will be at the forefront when the Local Joint Committee meets on Thursday.

The town is currently leading the way with new and interesting ideas being championed by Shropshire Council and the meeting at North Shropshire College will provide a chance to find out more.

They will include guest speakers revealing in detail how they are helping to change lives.

Among those in attendance will be Richard Howells, of Bronze Software Labs, an award-winning software technologies firm based in Shropshire, who will be talking about ‘Tribe’ - a social action technology designed to be a completely new way of connecting people within a local area who are looking for help either for themselves, for others, or their community - with people wanting to offer help.

It can be used by voluntary and community groups to tell people about what they’re doing and when and where they’re doing it, and can be used to give local knowledge about community based activity.

Belinda Doolan will also be there to talk about ‘Shared Reading’ – a simple idea that changes lives by bringing people together to read great literature aloud, improving well-being, reducing social isolation and building stronger communities. This is being provided in partnership with The Reader Organisation based out of Liverpool.

And Shropshire Council’s Community Enablement Team will also be on hand giving an update on the progress of the Resilient Communities and Healthy Lives work they are supporting with Oswestry as a demonstrator.

Councillor Vince Hunt, Shropshire member for Oswestry West and current chairman of the Oswestry Local Joint Committee, said he and the committee hope as many people will be able to attend the meeting and look forward to meeting you there.

He continued: “ I am actively involved and very supportive of the good work happening in Oswestry and can see a great deal of benefit for the local residents.

“I hope local residents will come along and listen to what our guests have to say and share your questions.”

The meeting will begin at 7pm.
