THE new incumbents of the former Subway store in The Cross in Oswestry has been granted permission for new signs.

Shropshire Council approved a bid to build and display externally illuminated signage for Caprinos Pizza, which has taken over from Subway after the franchise closed last year.

The new owners will be selling hot and cold food and the bid to display the illuminated signs, which will be on a grey background with lime green letters, was submitted to Shropshire Council in January this year.

Shropshire Council planning Melanie Williams said the signs were acceptable for the area.

She added: “The ground floor was previously occupied by Subway.

“It is located adjacent to Willow Street with the junction of Church Street and Cross Street.

“There are a number of different uses within this area including other banks, shops, cafes, restaurants, offices and residential properties.”

She added: “The signs are located within a commercial/retail area within Oswestry Conservation Area.

“Officers consider that the proposed signage will not present a hazard to the infrequent passing motorists on the pedestrianised area and is therefore acceptable in principle.
