Sir Algernon and Lady Herber-Percy are hosting a luncheon in the Garden Restaurant at Hodnet Hall, Shropshire, on Thursday May 17 in support of the Horatio’s Garden Oswestry Appeal. Gardeners’ Question Time presenter Bunny Guinness will be sharing her top gardening tips and insight into the design of the fourth Horatio’s Garden, which will benefit patients at the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries.

Following the generous donation from the National Garden Scheme (NGS) to the Horatio’s Garden Oswestry Appeal, long-time NGS supporters Sir Algernon and Lady Heber-Percy are kindly hosting this limited spaces event to further support this important appeal.

The gardens at Hodnet Hall have been welcoming visitors for over 50 years, with Sir Algernon’s father having been the driving force behind the current layout of the gardens, working to seamlessly link the newer gardens with the grounds of the earlier mansion. Sir Algernon and Lady Heber-Percy have continued this work, resulting in over 60 acres of brilliantly coloured flowers, magnificent forest trees, sweeping lawns and a chain of ornamental pools which run tranquilly along the cultivated garden valley to provide a natural habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife.

Guests at the fundraising lunch will have the opportunity to tour the gardens accompanied by Hodnet Hall gardeners, and discover the hard work and challenges of keeping the site looking ready for visitors.

Olivia Chapple, founder and executive trustee of Horatio’s Garden, said “We are so very grateful to Sir Algernon and Lady Heber-Percy for hosting this luncheon in support of the Horatio’s Garden Oswestry Appeal. With their links to the NGS who are supporting this appeal, it is a wonderful opportunity for gardening enthusiasts.

The Oswestry garden will be the fourth Horatio’s Garden and will provide such an amazing transformational project for patients at the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries, at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital. We have seen the impact a beautiful garden space can have on patients with spinal injuries at our gardens in Salisbury and Glasgow and look forward to bringing this to Oswestry”.
