Montgomeryshire's political pair, Assembley Member Russell George and MP Glyn Davies, celebrated the Farmers Union of Wales's Breakfast Week with a farmhouse breakfast at Plas Du Farm in Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant.

Hosted by FAW County chairman, Aled Roberts, Mr George and Mr Davies celebrated the week-long nationwide campaign with a locally-produced farmhouse breakfast, which aims to highlight the importance of eating breakfast as part of a healthy lifestyle.

The breakfast produce was kindly supplied by Stanley Jones, Rhos (bacon and black pudding); D&J Thomas, Rhos (sausages); Lewis, Parc Isaf (eggs) and the Village Bakery (bread).

In addition to raising the profile of Welsh farming, those who supported the breakfast helped the FUW raise money for charity. Money raised will be split, with 50 per cent going to the Royal Welsh Show, as Montgomeryshire is this year’s feature county, and the other half will go to the FUW charities, Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and the Farming Community Network.

Mr George, who attended the breakfast at Plas Du Farm, said: “I would like to thank Aled for his hospitality and for a wonderful farmhouse breakfast. It was great to discuss issues affecting the agriculture industry around the breakfast table, and celebrate locally produced foods.

“There are significant challenges facing the industry, and events like this that bring about informal discussions between farmers and politicians are crucial.”

Montgomeryshire's MP, Glyn Davies, added: "I would like to thank the farming union for having us for breakfast. It was absolutely delicious. This breakfast campaign provides an opportunity to promote the quality premium local produce that Montgomeryshire's farmers grow for us and to shine a spotlight on the importance of our rural economy.

“There really is no better place for sharing ideas than over good food at the breakfast table and that’s exactly what we were able to do at Plas Du Farm in Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant."
