Young gymnasts at a Shropshire school are proving to be a formidable force in the world of junior gymnastics as they bring home another medal haul in the latest inter-schools championships.

Gymnasts at Adcote School, Little Ness, near Oswestry, picked up two team golds and a team silver as well as a medley of individual gold, silver and bronze medals at the Midlands Independent Schools Gymnastics Association (MISGA) Championships.

Their success at the two-day championships held in Stamford, Lincolnshire, comes after Adcote’s under-11 and under-9 teams made a sweep of nearly all the top medals at the ISA National Gymnastics Championships held in February.

In the latest competition Adcote’s U11 Advanced Team came out top to become the MISGA champions for the fourth year running. It was gold too for the U11 Novice 2’s Team and a silver for the U9 Advanced Team.

Olivia Dyer won gold in the U11 individual Advanced competition and Maddie Rao achieved an individual 6th medal place. The other members of the gold-winning Advanced team were Lily Hayward, Isibeal Francis, Seren Blackwell and Maddie Stone.

The Adcote U11 Novice 2's won team gold in their competition and also took individual medals – a gold for Isabella Rizzo, a silver for Poppy Livermore and bronze for Georgina Pilkington-Foster and Millie Plumb. Grace Edwards achieved 7th place, just out of the medals

Isabella scored the highest set floor of the day with 9.8 marks out of 10 and was selected to perform her winning routine again at the medal presentation ceremony.

Meanwhile Adcote’s U9 Advanced Team delivered their best performance of the season to take the silver medal. The team included Maddie Wright, who also gained an individual 4th place, Holly Rao, Honor Rapson, Francesca Edwards and Louisa Llewellyn-Jenkins.

Another Adcote gymnast Mia Dyfnallt, aged 13, was invited to join the Stamford Open Advanced Team, as other sporting commitments meant Adcote could not enter a full team in this category. She gained an individual 4th equal place and helped the open team win gold.

“The girls upped their levels on the day and secured well deserved placings. It’s great to see that the dedicated work they’ve put in has once again produced champions,” said Adcote gymnastics coach Lisa Nixson.

Disciplines in the competition included set floor and voluntary vault for novice teams and voluntary floor and voluntary vault for advanced groups.

Adcote recently announced an increase in the number of gymnastics scholarships it is offering from September 2018. These will be eligible for high calibre candidates with a proven track record of excellence in the sport.
