Young footballers from North Shropshire College (NSC) excelled during their recent call up to represent the Welsh under-18’s academy team.

TNS Professional Phase Scholarship players Lewis Dutton, James Parry, CJ Craven, Callum Jones, Rob Reynolds and Tom Williams impressed coaches at the training camps to earn their place in the team. Their excellent technical ability, intelligence and leadership qualities led to them being recognised by the Welsh team and considered for two recent fixtures against the Republic of Ireland, played in the Waterford area of Ireland in February.

In addition to the Scholars’ successful call ups, the Welsh team then went on to recover from a 0-0 draw in their first match to reclaim the John Coughlan Memorial Cup for this year.

The news comes after an already successful period for the TNS NSC team, with scholar Harry Bower being recently selected for a place with the English Colleges Football Association under-18’s team.

Steve Benyon, sport lecturer at NSC, said: "“This has been a wonderful experience for our scholars, and has given them the opportunity to excel and develop their skills within an international level setting.

"I would like to congratulate them on their performance so far and wish them further success as they develop as players in the future."
