As part of Year 10 Work Experience Week, four Marches School pupils are putting together their own pieces of history at Oswestry Town Museum.

The pupils are exploring and researching local history and developing projects relating to World War I and the care provisions provided by hospitals.

Pupils, Paige Nevin, Beth Gregory and Ellie Bourne, have been discovering facts about hospitals and creating displays within the museum on three of Shropshire’s well known hospitals; Derwen Hospital, the Orthopaedic Hospital and Oswestry and District Hospital. They have been fascinated to learn how the treatment of patients has changed over the years and how advances in medicine have impacted the level of care received today.

Fellow Year 10 pupil, Eve Davies, has been looking at the First World War and the struggles that women particularly faced during this time, as well as the new job opportunities that war brought to women.

Mark Hignett, director of the Oswestry Town Museum, said: “The girls have brought some energy and enthusiasm from the Marches School and have been busy exploring and researching their specific areas. They have shown a lot of pride in what they’re doing, as their cabinet will remain inside the museum for the public to view for the next 12 months”.

Oswestry Town Museum is located at the Guildhall, Oswestry and is open to the public on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 4pm and Saturdays from 10am to 3.30pm.
