Schools in Wrexham are to share around £610,000 to pay for small scale repairs and maintenance under plans announced by the Welsh Labour Government.
In total, £14 million will be handed out to local authorities across Wales for essential school maintenance, which compliments the work of the 21st Century Schools Programme.
It is intended to be used for work such as boiler repairs, plumbing, caretaker costs, painting and decorating and replacing flooring.
Wrexham’s Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths has welcomed the investment and said: “After eight long years of UK Government austerity, everyone is aware budgets are tight but I hope this Welsh Government funding will help alleviate some of the financial pressure on our local schools.
“School maintenance issues can be costly and time consuming but this funding will help ensure teachers and staff can concentrate on supporting students.”
“I trust Wrexham Council will transfer the money to schools as quickly as possible so essential work can begin.”
