Sports equipment retailer, Net World Sports, championed Cheshire Police in their North Rural Schools Five-a-Side Tournament, which saw children from 10 different primary schools in Frodsham and the surrounding areas compete for the chance to be crowned the overall winners.

Designed to provide closer links between schools, young people and Cheshire Police, the Five-a-Side tournament took place on Thursday April 19 at Frodsham Leisure Centre and saw more than 80 children don training bibs provided by the sports company.

Founded in Kinnerely and now based in Wrexham, Net World Sports, donated four packs of their own-brand FORZA Pro Football Training Bibs to Cheshire Police for the tournament, which was attended by ten schools from Frodsham, Helsby, Kingsley and Crowton. All schools put forward eight pupils to take part in the tournament, where the winners and runners up from the group stages all went forward to the semi-finals, before St Luke’s Catholic Primary School and Kingsley CP School took to the pitch for the final, which culminated in Kingsley CP School being crowned champions after a tense penalty shoot-out following a 0 - 0 draw. They received their winner’s trophy from the Mayor of Frodsham, Councillor Alan Oulton.

Police Community Support Officer, Neil Flanagan, who organised the event, said: “We are extremely grateful to Net World Sports for providing the football bibs we needed to ensure the football tournament could take place with teams playing simultaneously. The tournament was a fantastic success and exceeded all our expectations, more than 90 children took part and it was great to see their families in attendance supporting them too.”

Due to the great success of this year’s tournament, Cheshire Police will be looking to hold another tournament next summer, in a bid to foster great relationships between themselves and young people of the community.
