A decision has been given to give Arthurs Vauxhall new rolling contracts for their Oswestry and Newtown dealerships which will secure the jobs of their 48 employees and offer the business ‘great confidence’ to invest in the future.

Nigel Williams, Arthurs managing director, said he was delighted with the news which comes following Vauxhall Motors’ announcement to terminate the contracts of every dealer in the UK and offer new contracts to preferred dealers going forward.

The plans are to reduce the number of Vauxhall dealers in the UK from 326 to around 220 with Stephen Norman, Vauxhall chairman, explaining that Vauxhall had decided to totally restructure their dealer network as a result in the change of buying patterns and the forthcoming changes in engine technology.

Nigel said: “Arthurs Vauxhall has always been obsessive about delivering the best levels of customer satisfaction which has resulted in us achieving six Vauxhall Customer Excellence Awards.

“At the same time, achieving a new car market share in our Oswestry and Newtown branches which is over double the national average.

“We take great delight in being the market leader for new car sales in our territories for the last 20 years.

“The great achievements we have in our business are down to the excellent team of people employed and this most recent news gives everyone of them the job security they deserve.”

He said Arthurs, whose new contracts will be without an end date, had represented Vauxhall in Oswestry since 1940 and added: “Here’s to the next 78 years!”
