BIZARRE accidents to two players have ruled them out of Cross Keys coach David Rees' (pictured) testimonial game at Pandy Park tonight.

But a host of international stars will still be in action for a former Wales XV against the host club.

Both former international centre David Bidgood and back row man Owain Williams have been injured playing with their children in the park.

Bidgood broke an arm about ten days ago and Williams broke a leg on Sunday.

"Owain told me he had never suffered a break in all his playing career and then he does it playing with his children. It's incredible," said Rees, who will captain a Keys side which will include old favourites Richie Donovan and Nicky Parkes.

Because of a rearranged Welsh First Division fixture, Pontypool trio Mark Jones, Byron Hayward and John Devereux are also out of the game.

But 'The Chief', Pontypridd back row forward Dale McIntosh plus former Wales hooker and former Rees colleague at Newbridge, Kenny Waters, have joined those already confirmed.

"It has been a fantastic ten years at Cross Keys," said Rees. "In that time we have rewritten the club record books and achieved a great deal of success and I have enjoyed it immensely."

Acting Keys skipper Ian Evans, at Pandy Park for seven years, said: "It was because of David I joined Cross Keys because I had played under him at Cross Keys College.

"He has a refreshing outlook, likes to play a stylish and expansive game and the players enjoy that.

"Team spirit under him is second to none. He's quite strong on the camaraderie front and we're one big, happy family.

"That was one of the big reasons we won promotion to the Premier Division and reached a cup semi-final under him."

Keys secretary Chris Clarke said: "The testimonial is a reward for his loyalty. In these days of professionalism not many players or coaches stay around too long.

"There is not big money at Cross Keys and we wanted to give something back for his services.

"In his two spells at the club the playing standards have risen significantly and we have been lucky to have him."
