Tributes paid to a former teacher
THE joy that former teacher Ruth Jackson brought into the lives of family and friends is to be reflected in her memorial service.
Those attending are being asked to wear bright colours instead of black to remember the 53-year-old former Woodside School teacher, who died at her home in Maesbury after a three-year cancer battle.
Following the service at St Oswald's Parish Church on February 9 at 11am, there is to be a pink champagne reception at Oswestry's Wynnstay Hotel.
Mrs Jackson, who leaves her husband, Robin, and two children, Carly, 23, and Ollie, 19, taught at Woodside Primary School in Oswestry for 27 years.
She was the school's early years manager before taking early retirement when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2005.
Her husband said that his wife lit up a room and was "as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside."
And daughter, Carly, said she was proud of the way her mum coped with her illness.
Woodside headteacher, Mr Rob McDevitt, said that Mrs Jackson was a special teacher and a "fantastic colleague to all of us."
"She would always look out for other people, putting her children first all of the time. Everyone misses her very much indeed," he added.
There will be family flowers only, with donations to the Lingen Davies Cancer Relief Fund which can be handed to the family or undertakers I. Jackson & Son, Llanfyllin.
