LORRY drivers following satellite navigation systems directions through Maesbury are causing a danger to other road users and school children it has been claimed.

Margaret Jones is just one of the concerned Maesbury residents and has called for action before an accident happens.

Margaret contacted the Advertizer after taking her concerns to Borough Councillor Betty Gull.

She explained that large 'conti
nental type' lorries are increasingly using the small country roads as a through road, causing great concern among the community.

Margaret said: "We are only a small village and they are causing great aggravation by following their sat nav instructions.

"The lanes are too narrow here, we are just starting to build up tourism and they come through ruining our verges. If two vehicles come down it can be dangerous. This is happening a lot and we have to do something," she added.

Margaret feels that it is the use of sat nav systems which has led to the increase in numbers of lorries going through the area and has called for weight limits or new signage to stop the lorries using the route.

She said that recently, a lorry had forced its way through a narrow road by flattening a series of bollards.

The route also passes Maesbury Primary School and residents fear that schoolchildren could be at risk.

Sensible

"We are fed up of it," Margaret said.

Councillor Betty Gull agreed and said: "All these lorries are equipped with sat nav and therefore instead of using the sensible route they are directed through tiny little lanes which are completely unsuitable.
